Thought Fox Media Group was founded in 2016 by Michael and Beth Smith in Newcastle, Australia. After more than half a decade volunteering in the media team for the Newcastle Northstars ice hockey organisation, the entrepreneurial couple saw the opportunity to bring professional level media services to grassroot and emerging sports, as well as work alongside local businesses, charities, and other organisations to share their message with an online audience.
TFMG has now grown to a business providing services nation wide. Using cutting edge remote production workflows in 2017, TFMG was able to bring previously unachievable production values to elevate brands on a national and global level. Though the technology behind the scenes has changed since then, TFMG continues to utilise remote production methods for fundrasing events and national sporting events – even sending return feeds to sports stadiums to enhance the game day experience with replays on the big screen – all within a fraction of a second!
While live production is our specialty, TFMG has worked on numerous post-produced projects including TVC’s, podcasts, music videos, spoken word presentations, social media assets, and more. Basically, if it’s digital and creative, we’ve got what it takes to get your job done.
Our company name got its inspiration from the poem, The Thought Fox by Ted Hughes. In the poem, Ted Hughes describes the moment inspiration strikes the creative individual, and the synapses firing in the brain to bring a work of creation to the blank page. We used this allegory and added some of our own love of woodland creatures to create our logo – the wireframe fox head represents the synapses in the brain at the moment of inspiration, while the splash of watercolour represents the sometimes messy act of creation, and the need to occasionally colour outside the lines to get the job done.
With our constant ambition to use emerging technology to enhance our production values and create different types of media, our philosophy is to keep real people doing real work wherever possible. For TFMG, this means treating AI as a tool to assist our creatives in their work, not replace them. We’re constantly looking at other emerging technologies in the media production space, such as virtual production, eSports, interactive entertainment to name a few. When new technology lines up with the right project, you can be sure we’ll be looking for the best way to implement it.
